Help: Information Luger P.08
 

Hello

I'm Mike, i am from Austria and hope you understand my bad english.
It's possible for me, to get a Luger P.08 in very good conditions, all in function no rust.
The Magazine is a new one, but the other parts looks like original.

I send a few Pictures but there are also marks that are hard to make a Foto.

On the Bottom of the " Barrel " there is also a Crown with an N ( like on the upper side with the DWM for Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabreik ), under that Crown with the "N" there is a "4" and under that there is the number 383 or 883. On the side of the Barrel there is a eagle, like the same as by the number 953.( under the 9 is a Crown with a N )
The other marks we see it on the next Pictures i hope the qualiti is good, i didnt found a number for the construction year.

The Pistole is from the estate of a german collector who died, i have no Information from him.
A guy told me that the eagle ( ist not a nazi eagle ) is not stamped after 1918, thats ident with the crown upper the "N", but here is also a mark with the crown upper a "U" and this is from mauser wwII , isn't it ??

I believe your luger is a collection of parts, assembled and re-finished after WWII by the East Germans. The 953 is for September 1953, the date of barrel mfg and likely close to the date that the luger was re-worked.

These are commonly known as "Vopo" lugers for their East German Volkspolizei use.

The Crown/n is the EG nitro proof, and the C/U is the Viewing proof for rebuilt weapons- also East German.
Earlier proofing may have been partially removed during re-finishing; I think I can see a C/N of the 1930 time frame under the numbers on the left chamber.

Your pistol or at least part of it was at one time used by the German police, from Weimar to WWII times.

Since you do live in Europe, do you know if it has been deactivated or is it still a fully functional firearm?

If this is still in good firing condition, it would be considered a "shooter luger" and valued below a collectible one unless you encounter someone that specifically collects VoPo reworks.

In the USA this would be valued around $800 in firing condition.

About the price from 800 Dollar - in the last weeks i take a look in the internet about infos from pistols luger p.08, my opinion there are many pieces in america i think there are many collectors from that art of gun and after ww2 there are many loot weapens that are transfered from europe to america, it was legal but so you found a lot of informations and i think more pieces of that firearms in america as in europe - so the price in europe is a Little bit higher as america, but this is my opinion i am not a specialist and i am on the start for interesting for that art of pistols.

Mike, your English is very good but I would replace the word "loot" with "trophy".

The grips on this Luger were specifically used on VoPo reworked Lugers. These Lugers were, in fact, also captured weapons that were gathered, stored, arsenal reworked and then issued to East German police forces. Similar stocks of Lugers were captured by the Russians in other territories after the war, reworked and used by the Russian military.
