Sugar Series Luger???
I was looking at a local auction and a DWM Luger is up for grabs but advertised as a "sugar series"??? I cannot find anything about this type of Luger and am interested in the history of such a firearm. If anyone could give me some background on this sugar series handgun, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It looks like a commercial DWM Luger with a police sear safety added.
Some of the reference may be to a unit mark on the grip strap which is not visible in pictures. The 1920 mark above the chamber is probably a Weimar property mark. With their bungled reference to the "Safety" lever German for "Safe" position and the rest of the errors, I doubt there is anything to "sugar"... Check out our forum's FAQ document for reference material. |
"sugar" perhaps should be "sicher" (German word for "sure" => "safe")?

Maybe it's a "sweet deal".

At CAD 800.... maybe indeed a sweet deal!
In the title "DWMC Gesighert Luger (Sugar Series) 9mm" the word "Gesighert" is misspelled- should be "Gesichert" = "secure" or "rendered more safe" Clearly mrerick is spot on when he says there is probably nothing to the reference of "sugar series." Far more likely, the gun has been "rendered more safe" by the addition of the police sear safety. This explanation makes far more sense..... |
Great price at $671, if you could get it into the U.S. from the north.

I would guess that whoever wrote that ad confused gesichert (safe) for sucher (sugar).
