Paperweight or something of value???
 

I was just given a P 08 Luger in sad condition.
I was wondering if anyone can identify what I have...
It has P.08 stamped on the left side of the frame
It Has "Japan"engraved on the left side of the forward toggle link
and it has NO. 1293
the 7" barrel ha been "spiked"
the plastic magazine catch and magazine bottom are deteriorated and stuck in place
the trigger slide plate is missing
A few small springs and ball bearings (for safety and lock bolt detents) are missing
Grips are plastic

Anyway, it may be a movie prop or some sort of knockoff.
If anyone can help me determine if it has any value or if it's worth trying to fix, I would greatly appreciate it...

well, I would say it is a toy

but the pictures are very small - that said, no LP08 (artillery model) ever had the P08 on the left.

What do you mean that the barrel is spiked?

It is a Japanese made model luger, pot metal.
Some folks collect them.

I'm a member there, and they helped me enormously. The Japanese modelguns, especially from the 60's, are very collectible. MGC is a much-wanted marque. :)

Probably just a toy as others have already said, in any case I can't see much from these small pictures.

There is really no question as to what it is, it is a Japanese made pot-metal "model" of a luger.
Since the Japanese cannot own "real" pistols, they have made accurate models with moving parts of many models of pistols and some rifles.

You can still buy these new.

In the box and in perfect condition a luger might bring a couple hundred, unless it is a "rare model". The barrel is not "spiked" but was made that way, the "hole" never went all the way through.;)

One in this condition and missing parts or some functions not complete, what ever one can get.

As DonVoigt first said, I believe it's a pot-metal reproduction - i.e. magnet does not stick to it
The term "spiked" barrel was a reference to the 1800's term for damaging a cannon by driving a spike into the "touch hole" It looked like someone had driven a spike in the barrel, but I now believe DonVoigt correctly pointed out that it was made that way.

It's probably just a paperweight as I first expected. It's condition is not in good enough to be of much value even to a reproduction collector. In fact, the black Bauer Bros. Mfg. holster it came with (in nice shape) is probably worth more than what was inside it...

it's still a cool model
I bought a walther ppk cast reproduction in the mid 70s while in Okinawa when I was a kid and still have it. my buddy gave me a full size Tommy gun with a drum that's a accurate reproduction. prices on these toy guns are nuts, but if your govt doesnt trust you with a real gun and all you can own are copies, might as well get a accurate toy. I guess im.saying I wouldn't toss it, fools like me keep that kind of stuff. jim
