Dumb Newbie ?
Hello gentleman,
Im having a difficult time determining the price range of shooter grade lugers. What are baseline prices for shooter grade artillery lugers and naval lugers. I haven't made up my mind on which one to purchase as they are magnificent guns with unique characteristics . I do however need to set aside funds for a future purchase. All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and patience. |
Those 2 models are somewhat problematic as there is such a wide price range and are of increased value. A very WAG would be minimum of $1500 on an Artillery, and $2000 on a Navy, and at those prices the guns won't be much to look at.
If you can provide more details, or send a link, we will try to help you. dju |
Thank you very much sir, that answers the why I have had a difficult time with finding a baseline price. Looks as if I have some saving to do. The shooter grades are not cheap, but nothing worthwhile is. Thanks again.

It depends on if you want an "original" pistol, with mostly matching parts; or an assembly of mismatched original parts; or original low % finish or refinish; or a "clone" with modern parts; or...
Just too many variables to give a base price. I have seen either sell for $1000 or $2000; depends on where and when and how big a rush you are in to have one! |
You will find a 4" military or 3.75" commercial Luger closer to the $800 mark if you look around, but don't buy the cheapest one you find. Save a bit longer and buy one that doesn't hurt to look at.

Vintage gun values are often based on rarity condition and the desire for those that want to buy them when they are up for sale, talking about "shooters" I would think prices are based mainly on condition.

Savage11,
If you do buy a shooter, but it from someone who "guarantees" it will shoot, and will stand behind that guarantee. Many "shooters" have problems that prevent them from being reliable shooters. ;) Perhaps the best place to buy one is on these forums, from someone who has shot the pistol and knows it will shoot. You will have to be patient till something shows up, but will probably save some $$ also. You can always try a WTB ad here, just be specific as to what you want-see my first post. |
These posts are a perfect example of why I love this place. Knowledgeable well thought out posts. Id write more but gotta get back to work. Will reply this afternoon.

If you have not done so already, consider purchasing high quality books like the Sill books or Gortz & Sturgess. They will make you a much better buyer of any Luger type including shooters.
If I was looking for a shooter artillery Luger I'd jump on this:https://www.legacy-collectibles.com/...ry-091218.html Legacy is a reputable seller. |

... and this time I forgot to add what I usually say to anybody buying a vintage gun to use at the range as a shooter: always stay away from heavy loads!
