Storage Question

Question for ya

I have a Luger with original WW2 holster
Should I store the Pistol in a silicone sock in the holster?
Or keep them Separate?
Also Pistol in a silicone sock?

Currently both are in a safe which has a dehumidifier in it and kept separate

Sorry probably a silly question but I have not found a good answer anywhere, and I certainly do not want to muss things up

Thank You

I have been using bore stores for at least 15 years now. I think they are the best thing for storage.

I believe that the consensus around these parts is to never store in the leather holster. Don't know if the silicone sleeve changes that.
Now having said that I store all my Lugers in their holsters. I wipe them down with an oily cloth, tuck them away and don't see them for as much as several years. Never a single flake of rust.

Over the years, I am sure there are many, if not scores of threads on this same thing.
Most people will say, store apart.
Dry is very tough on leather

That said, I have stored lugers in holsters at times for years, but live where it is dryer.

I use Bore stores for all my guns... and in fact, I am posting a for sale on the forum in a little bit.

If you have been "around" guns very long, you have seen what prolonged storage in a holster can do to the finish!

Don't store in a holster. In a sock or not. JMHO.

How and where you store depends on too many factors to give a single answer, and everyone has an opinion.

You have already seen at least three- some get buy with storing in a holster- depends on their particular conditions and care regimen.

Safest way is to store separately, with climate control- each situation varies.

Good-Day:

Here in South West Florida, the weather is both hot and humid.

After proper initial cleaning and lubrication, I've never experienced any type of rust, or other finish issues, with either of my extensive Mauser rifle or Parabellum collections, by storing them in Bore-Stores products. Yes, and some of the Mausers I've stored, untouched, for over 25 years!!

Personally, I've always stored my holsters separately from my pistols.

Feel free to ask your holster question to one of our very gifted experts in the Holsters section of this forum.

Hope this helps!

Seiger,
Where do you then store the items that are in the bore stores?
Safe? climate controlled area?

Sieger 09-28-2018 12:47 PM

Don;

In the open air, most of the year, non-air conditioned.

I think we worry to much over storage. I have lived in several states and DC. My collection has always been stored openly with a good coating of light oil inside and out. I do not store in holsters. Even in the high humidity of DC no problems. I go through them and re-oil a couple times a year. And I use plain old 3in1 oil. My holsters I treat twice a year with Conn0lly's or any pure lanolin product. Bill

I store mine in a dehumidified basement room inside of a case but separate from the holsters. Just as a matter of habit I give them an inspection for rust or corrosion every month, then store them in a light coat of oil.

First of all Than You Very Much!

Huh probably should have guessed it like Cleaning Regiments there are as many answers as there are people doing it

I dug around the Holster Forum and as well there are many opinions and how and where to store them

I'm in Washington State so we are rather damp and cool our safe has two dehumidifiers in it and they stay busy

There are certainly Wrong ways to store and many ways to store properly
Mainly I suppose I did not want to make a simple mistake that I would regret latter

I'm thinking
First I need to give the Holster a good inspection, and it's coming out of the safe and going into a drawer and will be stuffed with plastic bags

The Pistol will be well oiled, put in a Silicone Treated Storage Sock ( have not decided which, probably Bore Store ) and kept in the safe

Thanks Again
