New 1916 Luger

My first Luger with non-matching serial numbers. This will be a shooter. Taking it out Saturday to see how it shoots. Have been reading the Standard Catalog of Luger over the past couple weeks.

Just be warned that Standard Caralog is a fountain of misinformation as many on here will tell you (I also used it at first a base source) . Other than that, your pistol has been reblued and I don’t think the grips are original. Regardless, hope it shoots well for you and gets you into collecting!

A really handsome shooter, let us know range performance.

The Standard Catalogue of Luger was also my first Luger book. Cheap, available, I'd call it the proverbial good start. I've been told it has some inaccuracies but I still find it pleasant to browse. I hope you enjoy the book and your P 08.

Sweet looking shooter!!

Took it to the indoor range today. I shot RWS 124gr and Herters 115 gr. The Luger jammed more with the RWS and didn't jam as much with Herters. It would not even feed one round of Hornady HAP reloads. It shot approximately 2" to 2.5" left at 20 feet. I will try a brand new magazine and some different ammo next time out.

Describe your "jam"s; or show a picture next time.
Stay away from reloads.
How "old" is/was the Herters and RWS? One does not see either around here.

How about some fresh Winchester white box, or Blazer Brass 115 gr ammo?

Clean and lube well, hold on tight! Better luck next time. :)

Herters 9mm

The Herters is less than 12 months old from Cabelas. They still sell it. The RWS is 2 or 3 years old. I don't see it around here anymore (orange/black) box. I will try CCI Blazer and another brand (PMC) next time. I will photo the jams also.

Do you have more than one mag to try?? If you can, I would suggest that you purchase 1-2 new Mec-Gar Luger mags. Greg Cote Ltd. usually has them, and at the best price around. Old Luger mags can cause feeding problems in some Lugers.....not all.

Your Luger may well be a bit ammo sensitive, and you will need to try different brands to find what your gun likes. Good luck, and keep us informed.
