Help me identify this Luger

Greetings everyone,

Canadian gun owner here. A family member wants to give me his Luger pistol but unfortunately Canadian gun laws classify Lugers as "prohibited" and I cannot own it. We can sell it to a collector with the proper licence but we would like to get as much information as possible before we can determine a fair price.

Infos from the ownership certificate:

9mm
DWM 1920-1918
serial 5454-b
4" barrel

This is the only picture I have for the moment. I guess the ivory grips are not original, I don't know about the mag and the case/box. I will try to get more pictures by the end of the week.

Thanks all,
Bill

More pictures needed, obviously. Closeups of the markings. From the one pic, I think the front sight looks odd. Non-standard.

More pictures needed. Very sorry that your government won’t let your family pass heirlooms down without a license.

Unless laws have changed (very possible), one with an original barrel of less than 4 inches is illegal, thus why you saw many folks putting on 6 inch. So, the luger is not illegal. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Technically, it would be a 1918 / 1920 - 1918 is the date and the 1920 is the gov't stamp (not a date), see FAQ

The grips look like franzite, pretend pearl and the mag looks like a post war mec-gar or the like.

The grips are plastic, not ivory! May be Franzite, which shrinks over time...

Also looks like it's be rebuled too.

It can be done, but wouldn't the pistol loose most of it's value ? Plus I wouldn't be able to keep the original barrel, it would get destroyed.

Any real collector value on the pistol shown was lost when it was modified from it's original configuration. Shooter value IMO is $400-500 USD.
