He said good things about it. Only it needs short cartridges-- like truncated cone. Imagine that.

Thanks Tom, It seems as if each drum has a specific diet that it will work well with?... Most of my testing has been at the bench with some, now well worn, Winchester dummies that Ruff graciously loaded for me!
I have tried the truncated cone loads, and at the time, they didn't seem to help? But, recently, as the drum polishing sequence gets continually revised, I think they will work with most all bullet lengths and types... BTW, as of the 17 of this month, I have sent a total of 18 drum sets to Numrich, with additional quantities of nine every ten days.. until the current run of 75 revised drums are sent... I have three of GT's "re-works", each works fine with 115 or 124 gr round nose ball ammo.
I tried the Fiocchi truncated cone bullets, and found them to be no better or worse that the ball ammo in the one random GT drum I tried them in !

But as we all know, each luger is different; so I have no doubt that some drums may perform differently with different rounds! JMHO.

The article was pretty general, and he was accurate in most of his discussion on the delicate nature of the drum... I'm just happy the thing worked for him! :)

I bought a Numrich drum a few days ago, and when I got it out of the box and started to examine it, I realized it had been shipped with the spring tensioned when it flew out of my hands and knocked a rifle out of its place in my safe. Would the spring in the drum flying forward like that damage the mechanism? I've loaded it twice to check function, and sometimes the cartriges just stop; if you shake it, it retensions. Surly this happened in combat, hope I didn't wreck it!

"Uncontrolled de-compression" is never a good idea. ;)
But I doubt you hurt the drum.

Remember in firing from the drum, each recoil sequence "shakes" the drum pretty well; the shake you gave it to move the cartridge column is similar.

It will probably work just fine when you fire it.

But please, only use it in a luger that works 100% with 8 round magazines; any pistol problem with feeding, extraction, or ejection is only magnified when using a drum- original or GT improved. :)

Hi K98Mike... The drums are send with the winding levers tensioned and locked in the loading position for one simple reason, if the mainspring is relaxed, and the winding lever in the empty position, it means that there is tension on the follower spring, and these have a habit, (normal) of popping past the feed lips and causing some to return the drum rather then getting use to the quirks and issues unique to the beast! you must ALWAYS USE CAUTION when you wind, or release the lever... It can and will spank you and I guarantee you it will hurt!!!!!!!
With the winding lever locked, you should be able to load the full compliment of 32 rounds with out issue.. if it stops during the loading cycle, (usually first 3 to 6 rounds) stop, strip out the rounds, and start over... Tapping might help, but if the problem persists, send it to me and I will take care of the problem... Drop me a note at:

Stuck
 

Drum is stuck with 20 rds in it. Winchester 115 gr white box ammo. Ammo will spill out of the top but I'm afraid of emptying it and the follower damaging the lips. Have tapped and bounced all I can. Thoughts?

Hi Mike, hey! Correct procedure is... Put on safety glasses!! Remove all loose rounds that you can.... then reset the winding lever in the locked / tensioned position.. then remove cover screw, and also angle area small cross bolt, cover assembly with towel, and remove cover...
Clear jam, polish are of jam, re-install follower and spring, and reassemble... reload and retry... repeat as necessary... GT....:jumper:... easy way, send it to me and I'll correct!....:cheers:
