Cased Mauser P-08
 

While checking gun shops in Anaheim, CA area, I spotted a beauty in a wood case with spare magazine, cleaning rod, etc.

The case appeared to have been made by the factory and included Mauser literature. I wish I had taken a longer and closer look, but I was in a hurry.

The card ID'd it as a 1902 Mauser with a "rare" cartridge counter for $4500.

Oh yeah, they also had a cut-away on a wood stand, but I didn't see a price.

I have been under the impression that Mauser was not producing Lugers in the 1900 to 1908 period.
Have I been Misinformed or jumped to this conclusion without substantial aid ? [img]confused.gif[/img]
If I am correct in this assumption, How can there be a 1902 Luger type Mauser Pistol ? [img]rolleyes.gif[/img]

I think this must be one of those 1970's Mausers, they made some cartridge counters.

Then I guess that this 1902 label is just another dealers oversight, Eh ? <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

SubVet et al, The Luger shown and the one in question are definitely the 1970s Mauser Parabellum commemorative of the 1902 Bull Barrel Cartridge Counter and I expect that the price quoted new in the case, is about right. I would expect any original of only 50 made to go for much more. For any of you that are fortunate enough to own either type, I have one original mag of each type in my collection and had a few Mec-Gar copies made that I sell @$95 each. Tom H.

The Cartridge Counter Commemerative was made in a 250 lot. The last time I checked (and it has been several years), Interarms (the major importer)still had 5 or six "B" quality cartridge counters left with either marks on the case, or grips, or some flaws to the metal. Tom, did you say that you have a magazine for the carbine commemerative? I have one as pictured above. They also made 250 of the carbines, but less than 100 were earmarked for the U.S. The rest stayed in Europe. Mine is serial number "31 von 250". I also have the commemerative 06 Navy "06 von 250". My gun is pictured in "Luger the Multi-national Pistol". There were also 250 Russian Commemeratives, 250 Bulgarians, and 250 Artillaries. Also, there were a number of target and engraved pieces. Jim
