American eagle luger

Could someone tell me the history of German made Lugers with the American Eagle stamp on the receiver? When did it start, how many were made & were they all chambered for the 30 caliber. I assume, but don't know that it was Stoegers who asked for it since they were the American distributors for The Luger and in fact registered and own the trade mark Luger. I would appreciate any help you can give me on the subject.

That's a pretty big and vast subject. Basically the AE was a "gimmick" to appeal to the American market, but only for the guns designated for sales in the USA. Models include the 1900 and 1906. As for Stoegers, not really my area but I believe that they came along later and had nothing to do with the early guns bearing the AE. Search the FAQ's and also surf the "Early Lugers" heading above this one and you will answer a lot of your questions.
Good Luck, and others more knowledgeable than I will be along soon.
