Commercial Luger Holster?
8 Attachment(s)
Hello all. So today I purchased this Luger Holster that is in excellent condition overall, but has no maker’s markings, military stamps/markings, or import marks whatsoever on it. It also doesn’t have a pouch for the tool in the flap. It’s also about an inch and a half longer than the more beat up 1938 Nazi holster I have. Is this a cheap repro, a refurbished holster, or a commercial holster, maybe even for a navy? (Fat Chance, I know, but one can hope.) What’s more, the holster came with a single magazine that’s in good condition. Only marked “Made in Holland” in English. It has very pronounced lips and the base seems like it’s plastic of some kind. When I tried this magazine out later on my shooter which G.T. gave me, it gave me many problems. For one, I like to load my magazines full when I shoot, which I see many of you do not do. I have a Mec Gar which performs fine like this and even though it was ill advised, i even did it with 100 rounds in my old wood based 1920 commercial magazine without much issue. The first 2 round in this full magazine both failed to feed with the round not really leaving the magazine AND jamming the magazine so I couldn’t even eject it. We had to dig thouse rounds out gently with a pocket knife. Last six rounds fired without issue, but it failed to engage the hold open on the final shot. Does anyone know anything about either of these things? I only paid $25 so I figure I’m either out nothing or got an amazing deal.

HK, The holster shown in your above photos, appears to be the type that was offered by Interarms in the 1980s for use with their 4" barrelled Parabellums. The Dutch postwar mag may also have come from them, but appears to have a replacement brown plastic bottom and perhaps some work on the feed lips (not well shown in your photos). TH

If you had to guess, what are they worth respectively?
|
maybe $40-50 for the mag because its marked
maybe $40 for the holster - unless someone else knows what it might be, then its just a nice reproduction.... police style, but no tool pouch, that is weird.... ---------- you loaded 8 rounds in it? It seems I can never get more than 7 without forcing it really tight. |
For a mag that does not work? minus $40! ;), about what it would cost to get it working!

“you loaded 8 rounds in it? It seems I can never get more than 7 without forcing it really tight.”
Yeah I usually load up 8 in a magazine. My family has a large amount of hand strength among ourselves, I manage to load all the rounds and don’t even have a takedown/loading tool for my Lugers, all thumb strength to depress the magazine springs . That said, this Dutch Magazine was noticeably more difficult and could BARELY fit an 8th round as I had to work around the feed lips (will post better pictures of this later). Side question now, since I have a 1920 commercial model Luger with 1 original matching magazine, would this holster suffice as a step towards making it a rig? And would this magazine be able to help perform the same role since it’s clearly an otherwise unmarked commercial magazine of some sort |
mag... Made in Holland!
The made in Holland mag is, in outwards appearance, identical to the Mauser Parabellum mags offered with the Original Mauser offerings in the early 1970's The spring was very different in that is was a little less strength then the Mauser mags, but still bear strong, and ultimately, they blow the plastic bottom, right out of the bottom of the mag!!! (MEC-Gar learned the very same lesson, only it took a bit longer, as the follower spring was not as strong!)
That is probably why that "Franzite" looking replacement is on/in there? Don, is right in that it would cost about $40.00 to put a nice walnut or aluminum bottom in it, maybe even a Swiss bottom if you like the color? Along with a new correct coil, (not box") type follower spring, and the original brass follower guide, spring cap... and re-pin... Aaaaahhhh, my work here will never be finished! :) best to all, til....lat'r......GT.... |
So in other words, the magazine seems to have a few issues with it that ought to be addressed if I want to use it as a spare for my shooter or otherwise try to use it as a spare mag for my more collectible piece?

Yeah I usually load up 8 in a magazine. Not all aftermarket magazines will hold 8 rounds and were never intended to! I'm a little surprised that you didn't bust the plastic base, it will sooner or later!Side question now, since I have a 1920 commercial model Luger with 1 original matching magazine, would this holster suffice as a step towards making it a rig? Not really, it doesn't "look" like a luger holster without the mag pouch, JMHO.And would this magazine be able to help perform the same role since it’s clearly an otherwise unmarked commercial magazine of some sort[Ys, if you get it fixed./QUOTE] See notes above. :D |

Hi Quintin,
I don't understand your desire to house your 1920 Commercial in a faux military holster. Most of these guns, when imported into the US back in the 1920's, were carried in domestically made leather like the ones shown below. You don't need provision for an extra magazine or tool, since you have neither. You can pick up holsters like these relatively cheaply at gun shows (not the 6" models I show here, but the much more common 4" variety that would fit your gun). Think how cool you'd look with one of these babies strapped to your waist! Norm |

Don, thank you for the information. I was not aware of the aftermarket mags not always holding 8 rounds. And yeah I noticed today that the mag base is very loose (also surprised it didn’t bottom out yesterday, upon inspection, then again I only used it once). Also, good to know about the holster. Again I only paid $25 for it and the mag together so low risk and not out much, regardless. I’ll save it for an interarms Luger if/when I find one. Otherwise, what would be your recommendations for getting this magazine to function as a viable spare mag for my commercial Luger to give it 2 of them or to get it functioning as a good second mag for my shooter?
Norme, i just wasn’t sure with commercial Lugers like this how a rig would work or if it even exists for these variants. My youth and inexperience showing through. I have a very beat up looking 1938 Nazi military holster but it needs to be restored and paired with an appropriate pistol eventually. Also attached are some more pictures of the Magazine feed lips and the base and how very scantily it’s held in place. |
GT would be the guy to fix you magazine for you; but after looking at the feed lips, I think it is time to retire it. Save the base for re-use or just use it to fill a mag pouch when/if you need to.
You might get adequate service out of it as is by only loading 5 rounds. I "normally" shoot 5 shot strings, a hold over from long ago when I shot competitively, so it is just natural for me. 8 seems an "odd" number. ;) |
A shame, overall the finish on the magazine surfaces is quite nice. I’ll probably just use it as a 5-6 round mag to shoot with as a spare of some kind. For that would you still recommend that I send it to GT to fix the mag base or just use it as is?

Stoeger Holster
Bill: Do you have a holster that would be suitable for a 6" 7.65 m/m 1930's Stoeger in excellent condition? Stoeger marked by chance?
Thank you....hardleyhever |
