Holsters with belt buckles
 

Received my first repo navy holster yesterday. This holster uses the belt buckle flap hold down. This type system is puzzling to be. It seems obvious to me this type holster is not intended for easy access to the pistol. It is near impossible ( if not possible at all) to open this holster with one hand or even two when worn on a belt. So I assume that this type buckle holster is used more for protection of the pistol rather than use. Unless with the possible use of the pistol was near, then all would be unbuckled in advance. I note other Luger holsters have a post or strap that slides out, thus making quicker access to the pistol when needed. Might someone explain more the reason for the buckle system? I see this buckle system is also used on many styles of Luger holsters.

Hi Bill,
Imperial German holsters were intended primarily to protect the gun from the elements. "Quick draw" is a Hollywood concept. If you want easy access get an American holster.

If you wish I do have a couple of Colt SAA with standard western holsters, but not of the quick draw design. I understand the need for protecting such a close tolerance design of the Luger. I was just surprised at how much effort would be needed to remove Lugers from some style holsters while wearing.
