It finally arrived! My birthday gift!

A 1900AE...I know: it is reblued....BUT it will be sent to THOR for a full restoration. All matching except the mag.,grips have to be redone ( cheap varnish was applied...) has a VG bore.

After a long search it was THE ONLY ONE I FOUND HERE IN QUEBEC....

Cool........but how will that work? Wont the gun have to be brought into the country through an Importer like Simpson LTD or I think Bob Adams here in Albuquerque has an import FFL? If so would it have to be import marked? I am not sure about this stuff, I dont have an export license either to return it. I am a bit confused. Hate to be a wet blanket, as I would love to work on the gun, but only properly which I am unsure of the requirements. Thor

Almost all the 1900/1902 Lugers shown in Kenyons, Luger MNP have what appears to be a fire blue/gray front sight blade? Is this the case? Thanks!

Kidvet, nothing against Thor's refinishing, but if this Luger has it's original bluing, why have it done?

Carl, he said it was a reblue and looking at all the pictures, all the strawed parts are blued too which is incorrect for that variation. I usually wont reblue an original gun unless it is very poor anyway. Thor

Thor, Sorry I missed that. I'm afraid these 70 year old eyes were tired from staring at the tube! You really do excellent work.

Carl, no problem. I share your feeling about guns with good original bluing. I have turned down half a dozen jobs because the guns were just too good to fix up. The first thing I usually ask prospective clients is "What do you want done and why" I love to here about their guns and hopefully can see some pictures. If I get a gun in that is too nice, I ALWAYS call the owner to talk about it. The common thing is a person has a 94% finish gun with 60% strawing and they want it restrawed! I strongly discourage it if the gun is original and matching. Thanks!

Nice AE! Of course it will be much nicer and much more authentic when it gets the THOR touch added to it. It appears (and I hope I am not right) that someone did the Great Seal of The United States an injustice with a buffing wheel at some time. Maybe it is just the picture but it looks a little shallow in the high portion. This is a perfect candidate for refinishing and I am sure it will be beautiful. I have an example of Ted's fabulous work and it is a joy.

A good possible solution to the problem of import/export would be to remove the parts that need to be restrawed and send only them. The frame is officially the gun. The strawed parts would only be metal parts for refinishing and could be sent in any fashion without a permit. The pictures seem to indicate that the bluing on the rest of the gun, while reblued, may not be that bad. Its hard to tell from pictures no matter how good the pictures. The grips could be sent to Hugh for recheckering the same way.
