New Purchase 1911 DWM
 

Hi Everyone!

First off, thanks for letting me join the forum!

I just recently picked up a new DWM and am looking for some more information. The seller was unsure if it was genuine because he inherited it from his wife's father.

The proof marks all seem right, but anything more is beyond my knowledge.

Top of the slide is marked 1911 DWM. Under the barrel is: SN 5904(e?).

All small parts are matching with the last two of the serial (04).

Nice looking 1911. Are there any markings on the grip strap?

Unfortunately there's nothing.

A very nice gun and, as far as I can tell, original. 9mm cal. What did you want to know specifically?

The big question for me is if it's original or reproduction. I can't seem to find other examples of 1911 DWM's.

It really threw me off as to how clean and free from pitting it is.

It looks good, my only hangup is that there is a date over the chamber as if it was a military gun but there are no military style marks on the parts (they are in the commercial "hidden" placements), weren't military ones prominently displaying those marks or was that a world war 2 military Luger phenomenon?

All military P08s up through the middle of 1911 have small parts numbered in the commercial fashion. The pistol shown is absolutely correct in every way.

Thanks George!! I always knew the prominent lettering was a sign of definite German military use, I just didnt know they werent always prominently displayed!

Congrat, A hard date to find in exc condition. The only thing I might question, is the originality of the finish. Numbers & suffix on front of frame appear to have been polished, but difficult to say for sure from just a photo. TH

Halos on barrel SN and toggle axle retaining pin in white with the dimple would indicate that at least the upper is original.

Can you show us a picture of the inside of the lower frame and the underside of the upper? It will help a lot to determine if original.

Also what is stamped on the bottom of the magazine?

This would appear to be a beautiful original 1911 DWM Army pistol.
And this is in the wrong forum - should be under P08 Military, if someone want to move it.

I like it, but the finish has none of the typical wear marks (hosted rash) ?
Where did this gun from from ?
The edges are sharp and the markings are clean and crisp.
And the suffix looks like an "e" to me.

Unfortunately the magazine provided with the gun was a modern reproduction with no markings.

The only history we have on it is this; the seller inherited it from his father in law (who collected WW1 and WW2 era guns). Thankfully the gun was stored in a plastic case wrapped in an oiled rag.

Also purchased with this gun was a 1943 Dural Walther PPK and a 1942 Colt 1911 (both of which are genuine and matching).

If anyone else wants more pictures I'm happy to provide!

The finish appears to be 100% original and correct.
