Having Feeding Issues
I have a byf 42 Luger and have one original magazine and one Mec Gar magazine. They are both failing to feed even when trying to chamber a round. What can I do to fix this thank you!

More info. needed.
Specifically what is the top round doing? Not being picked up, or running forward into the ramp and stopping, or stove-piping? dju |
The tip of the bullet is running into the top of the chamber.
|
Specifically what ammo. are you using? And this happens both charging the gun from empty and also during the firing cycle? If you push the nose down to guide the first round into the chamber, does that happen on the subsequent rounds?
Are you snapping the toggle to close on it's own or lowering it slowly by hand? dju |
Im shooting Aguila 125gr FMJ, its when charging the pistol and the following shots. Im letting it slam into battery. I have not ruled out the ammo, but its every shot and while charging the action.

Check the overall length of the cartridges with a micrometer... I don't recall the tolerances for cartridge length, but I know there are threads discussing the maximum length. Try the search function...

Right now the best options I can suggest are to try both different ammo. AND different magazines. If you know anyone with a functioning Luger see if you can try their magazines. I like 115 gr. S&B, MagTech or Winchester white box, but have nothing against your current choice.
Both Mec-Gar and late Nazi magazines are good, but it is time to think outside of the box and try alternatives. You may also consider contacting the LugerDoc; he's gotten more than one of mine back on track over the years. Or GT for the ultimate magazines. But first things first. I assume that you are holding the gun tightly on firing... dju |
No limpwrist here thank yall for the information it was helpful!

Do you know anything about the springs in this Luger.....especially the mainspring? Has the gun been broken down and cleaned with a good lubing?? What does the feed ramp look like.....smooth or rough??
|
That would "usually" be due to too short ammo, or magazine too low in the mag well, or maybe the feedlips need just a tweek.
