Pistol in a safe
 

I just received a 1900 and upon examination I found 3 flakes of gold on and under the grips. Two of the flakes are small and were in the checking of the grip. The third flake is quite large and was under the grip.

Do you reckon that this pistol was housed in a safe which contained gold dust?

Wes, more than likely it was carried by one of the SS officers that helped smuggle all of the Nazi gold out of Berlin into the caves of the Hartz Mountains. I can't imagine someone being that careless with gold dust, even in a safe.

It's probably the one Grandpa Stonebender carried during his days in the Yukon.

Maybe it was carried by guard at a gold mining or refining complex?

This pistol is 96% original finish and 80% straw. The grips are execellent. This pistol was not used for many generations. Probably some present day has put a few rounds through it for the back of the frame has been marked by the toggle action. Too bad.

Maybe someone spraypainted it gold and didn't like it, and peeled the paint off. Just thought of that. About those high altitude valve stems....... Stevie.

The color does not match my gold painted ones. It is a different shade from Rustoleum.

Tiny flakes of gold (dust) sometimes leak through the bottom of containing sacks and Luger grips could act as riffles. In any case it sure makes an interesting story.

That is my line of thinking, also. I figure someone purchased the pistol and kept it in his safe as protection if he was robbed. It is my understanding that many rich men kept their wealth in gold brick and dust. They did not trust paper currency.

There is something going on here that is a little more 'flaky' than that gold dust!

Lugers may be contaminated with gold just as virtually every $100 bill in existence contains a microscopic amount of cocaine.

Aaron, this problem is easily avoided if you print your own.
