P-08 Question and Values?
4 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have run across two P-08's that I should be able to get for a good price. Attached are photos of one and what it comes with. The other one is supposed to be in the same condition except WWII era. The seller said all numbers he can see match on both pistols. I can go look at them as the guy does not want to keep them and will trade for newer pistols or cash. The issue is that they are both missing the sideplate and spring. With this in mind I know I am looking at $80-$100 each for a mismatched plate that will lower the overall values. The other issue is I don't know if they will function when completed. I assume I can put them on as I have taken my two apart and put them back together multiple times. Any information and thoughts on a good offer would be appreciated. Thanks, |
You're looking at non-functional parts. Sure, they are most of a Luger, but you are not buying a functional firearm.
Recoil springs can be obtained from modern sources. The side plates, not so much. Replacing the slide plate does two things. The pistols use their collector value as all matching guns, and you'll not only need to acquire replacement parts, but they will require hand fitting. That is not trivial on a Luger. It requires some experience and skill. There is not enough detail in your photos to help you with judging finish or much else about them. |
If they are cheap enough and you are mechanically inclined, go for it.
Side plates are a pain to fit and then the lever must also work with the frame/sear bar combination. Any given side plate has about a 50% chance of fitting your pistol, and if it "fits", probably another 50% chance it will operate correctly. I usually have to try 4 or 5 side plates to get close, then hand fit, and then adjust the lever. It is an "education"; and the side plates are about $100 each. I'm not sure which spring you are missing? |
Thank you Don, more where I was headed. If you noticed where I am located you will understand limited resources and P-08's don't show up much. The good news is no one around here is very interested in them if they are missing anyhting and don't function. I intentionally don't wan't to ask for more photos or act very interested if am going to negotiate a price. I assume that just the one pi has $200.00 in magazines if original plus grips, togggle assy, holster and so on. Is it worth $500.00 in parts alone then $1,000 if I can get it fixed for $100-150?
|
Yes,
worst you could do is sell them for parts and break even. You could not have someone "fix it" for $150, but if you can do it yourself, maybe $150 would buy the parts. Buy them both, send them to me. I'll get one working for you and keep the other- how is that for a deal? Pm me if interested. |
