First Luger

4 Attachment(s)
I told myself for years that I did not need a Luger. It didn't work.

After prowling Gunbroker for several weeks , I focused on an item which seemed to be somewhat under the radar. I was willing to settle far a mismatched shooter , given my budget , but I wound up with a matching (I believe) 1916 DWM. Ser.# is 9366L , exception is that the wooden floor plate is numbered to a different gun. The winning bid was $1056 , which I felt was a good price. Opinions and comments regarding that are welcome.

I am about a month into my Luger initiation. I hope that I am in the proper category , in that the DWM in question is/was a military pistol. Any observations or comments which would expand on my knowledge base would be very appreciated.

Now let's see if I can attach the images ...

Congratulations, looks good to me on the military markings. The members with a lot more knowledge than myself will be able to tell you much more. I was in the same boat as you a year ago and now I have two, working on a third.

Yes, a good deal for a shooter that is also collectable!

Good for you doing your homework and being diligent in searching GB. These "deals" are there, maybe 1 or 4 a month; they usually aren't showy and, as you say, thus fly under the radar.

Looks good so far, photos of the barrel serial and serial on the frame front will help us judge if finish is original or not. Also the transfer lever in the side plate and the coupling link below the toggle should be in the white - photos of those would help as well.

The images 4 Scale asked for ...

Notes : The letter in the ser.# is "i" , not l as I previously thought , sorry for the error.

What does the number at the base of the barrel signify ? 8.82 , if I read the last digit correctly.

Sorry for taking up so much space - trouble loading.

OK - the site will not let me load more images due to whatever this means -PHP Warning: " POST Content-Length of 12971759 bytes exceeds the limit of 8388608 bytes in Unknown on line 0"

Suffice it to say that the transfer bar in the side plate is in the white.

You can add more photos, just reply to your own post. There is a cap of about 8-10 photos per post. The 8.82 is 8.82mm bore diameter. Well within the barrel specification.

Looks like a nice "1914" Imperial

John ,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried responding as you said , but the images would not load.

Pistol - Thank you. I am very pleased to have it.

Instead of a quick reply, use GO ADVANCED. Use the MANAGE ATTACHMENT link.

When you get the popup screen use one of the lines browse to the file you want to upload. They should get automatically resized to fit. This photo (of the house we are building is 1.6 MB) but still loaded and was reduced to 146KB.

I will take a while for the photo to load, just watch that upload screen and the filename will eventually appear. Of course if you load 8 large files, it will take quite a while but they will get there...

Try again.

DonVoigt 01-17-2018 12:02 PM

Better to load only 1 or 2 large files at a time, too many and one will get "timed out".

The white coupling link and halos on the barrel serial number, coupled with the overall appearance, indicate the finish is original. You have an excellent collectible Luger for a 'shooter' price, well done!

Just as an FYI - we have a FAQ (FYI for your info - FAQ frequently asked questions ;) :D )

In the FAQ, which took scores of hours and numerous people, are the answers to what you asked about the 8,82 but in more detail.

Mr. Tinker ,

The FAQ section certainly is a great source of information. I have utilized it in the past and certainly will again in the near future. The question about the 8.82 was a pop-up on my part - I first noticed those digits when reviewing the images I posted ant the request of 4 square , and went ahead and asked as part of this thread.

Thanks to all who have made this forum the great resource and source of entertainment that it is. I doubt that I would now own a Luger if it were not for LugerForum.

Very nice! I'd be very happy with that gun at that price. (My wife, on the other hand, is generally not happy with me acquiring any more guns at any price)

Waveski 01-18-2018 01:40 PM

Robert , you are in good company.
