1916 DWM P.08 Police Conversion with "S.P. P." heel marking

Here's a recent acquisition.
This is a 1916 dated "C/T C/S C/S" accepted P.08 military Luger that was arsenal converted after WW-I for police use, including installation of the sear safety. This pistol is not marked with the "1920" Weimar property marking on the chamber. The original 1920 Landespolizei "S.L. Pol." marking on the grip strap was struck out in 1922 and re-stamped on the heel with the reorganized Saxon Security Police "S.P. P." marking on the heal, representing the (S.P.) Sächsische Polizei, Saxon Police district of (P.) Plauen. The Luger also has the number 2 matching police magazine. |

The magazine base has a marking I'm not familiar with:
|
The dove or eagle over a circle is a common Weimar Police inspection/acceptance stamp for magazines.
Nice catch on the Saxon police luger with a matching mag! |
Great find!
I have a particular fondness for S.P. marked police lugers. I like the oddness of where marked, and was my first police luger. |
This one came with a back story that I have yet to verify.
It was one of several hundred firearms brought back from Europe at the end of WW-II by one of the younger members of Patton's personal staff who is now in his 90's. He apparently had a fondness for confiscated firearms, and the means and the authority to get them back home in large numbers... More if I get some factual information to back it up. |
