1916 Luger all matching
I picked up a luger my dad has had for years. He got it from his uncle who was in WW1 and later took it back to Indianapolis. Story goes he used it at his store and took down two robbers... Dad got it after he passed and has held on to it. From what we can determine the last time it was fired was about 50 years ago... still has ammo and is in great condition.
I am going thru web sites and trying to learn more about it with the markings and serial number info. Interesting. The serial number on the barrel is correct but just under the number and what appears to be a small L is another number. Any idea what that is for? The date number on top is 1916. I plan on cleaning it and taking it out to a firing range. Any suggestions or advise would be welcome. I love this type of history, particularly with family history tied to it and will keep it then pass it on to the kids. |
The second number on the barrel should be the bore measurement typically 8.8_.

If it's a lower case, script "L," it is the letter suffix, and part of the serial number. It should also appear under the numbers of the serial number on the frame. Read the FAQ and the stickies, and you'll find out about this!

Thanks for the info, will read up more on this!
