Early Commercial Mark?

Don Beasley asked that I post these photos of the magazines that accompanied the Robert Musgrave 1900 pistol.

He would be happy to receive your input on the proof or mark on the base of these two mags.

I sent an e-mail to Don giving him information about the 'flaming bomb' proof mark which are encountered on some early magazines.

Wes, if you have the reference, Harry Jones, Luger Variations, pg 238-239 indacates this marking to be that of a 1900 commercial, Swiss and American Eagle, 1902 carbine, 1906 Swiss, and Swiss Police. 1906 30cal, Commercial and American Eagle. 1906 Russian. From the picture you posted I think that that impression fits this description. Not much help, but that is all I found.

These photographs of the magazines have now been added to the ROBERT Musgrave 1900 Luger photo album in the Members Gallery and the name of the album has been corrected...

Thanks to Wes for pointing out my mistake in the album title...

IMHO this is the same inspector's marking found inside the TD lever well of most M1900 lugers (actually the zodiac sign for Taurus) and has nothing to do with any US Ordnance "flaming bomb. Either way, I suspect that the mag markings are spurious. Tom H.
