DWM 1915, Reblue, Shooter
 

I’m really beginning to love buying shooter Lugers; it’s an adventure in weird.

Here is the gun:

Gun was aggressively buffed prior to re-blue (nice bluing job!) and markings run faint to gone. Enough of the markings remain to assert:

1915 chamber date

DWM toggle link

Imperial firing proof on breech block

Matching except for magazine, grips (un-numbered), some small parts (un-numbered), and the barrel (different military SN, w/barrel gauge).

Gun has unrelieved sear, hold open added, front receiver ring has Artillery nibble, no rear sight on trailing toggle link.

Dark bore, good rifling.

This is going to be an interesting pistol to shoot.

Since the top front corner of the barrel extension has the appropriate relief notch, this pistol started life as an Artillery model. I've seen pics of waaay worse results from buffing, this one still retains some crispness of its lines. Looks like a good shooter.

Thank you for the reply. The re-blue job was really very nicely done. I have no idea why whomever replaced the barrel used a old military take off, with a dark bore. Seems to me it would have made more sense to use a new barrel, but who knows?

As an aside, when looking for shooter Lugers I'm especially inclined to Lugers with a nicely done re-blue job. It's my experience they are less likely to have mechanical issues as there aren't many people who will sink the cost of a nice blue job into a gun that doesn't work well.

Don't sweat the dark bore. Lugers with sewer-pipe bores seem to shoot just fine. And yours may clean up a bit after firing some FMJ rounds.
It's definitely a shooter, and hopefully it will be a good one.

Given the good rifling it should be quite accurate. The photos look very nice and it requires close inspection to detect any buffing. Should make a a fine shooter, let us know how it performs.
