Gun record card

A while back someone on this forum posted a copy of a card they used to keep track of all the information they keep on each gun they owned. I would appreciate they either repost said card or send me a copy by PM, Thank you, Hugh

I did not see any cards to hold information, but I use this Excel document (took out my personal info) and was forced to change it to PDF to post here, anyone want a copy in excel, send me a PM with your email.

I also used ""My DB gun"" software (it allows pictures and other information, but I never got into it)

I use plain old pen and paper in a small (5x7) notebook. Then I make a few copies and store them around the house.

I built my record using Microsoft Excel and have similar info as Ed's pdf. It's on both my computers and I have 2 thumb drives that save the same info. Yes, any changes must be done for all files but it's easy to do. Any update is saved with the date change as part of the file name. So if I'm lazy, I can update next time there's a change by seeing the file name. Duplication is good in case of theft, fire or the computer disaster.

Using a free cloud solution like dropbox, onedrive or google drive saves you the hassle of maintaining several copies of the same document. Plus side is that you can take your records with you on shows and visits, as all these solutions offer interfaces for tablets and phones.

I don't trust computers with storing info of any kind.

With respect, some of you guys need to get into the modern age.

I use an excel spreadsheet similar to E'ds along with a folder of pics.

Ah, Hello!!! Does the attached pic tell you what cloud computing is like??? :banghead:

No criticism of Ed's Excel work, but IIRC one of the members had posted a sample of an individual record card. I liked that idea and copied it but it got lost in the hundreds of 'archive' CDs/DVDs I have here. :(

Actually that is what I was looking for, the posted card that I could just copy and start using! I tried a search for IIRC but it just took me back to my original post....

My suggestion is to start with a card of your own choice of info, use it a while and then see how it grows and is modified.

One size does not fit all, and making your info suit your needs and method to access the info going to be a little different.

After all , making a card is not that tough! :)

Here when you buy a new gun you are complelled to report it straight away to the Police station that in a couple of days will release you an updated Report of all your guns with:

Type of firearm, Make, Model, Serial number, Caliber.

The only thing that one should annotate is the price paid...
... but sometimes it's better fo forget that...

Not quite sure if that is a convenience that we need in this country or not. Still looking for the posted gun record card that was posted by a member short time back...
