Hi, every time i see a price of a Luger it comes with a number (%). I think is something about how good is it... and i dont know how to calculate it for my Luger. It has the wood part on the botton of magazine broken, the the hand safty is not working.. but every thing else is fine.. all the numbers match, including the woods parts.. the serial number is 16***, i hope you can help me with te price too, I've seen a few over than U$S1000, but if i tell you how it cost me, you're not gonna believe me.. I'm from argentina, so.. my english is not good... thnx!

RAC,

Welcome to the Lugerforum... Calculating the value of your Luger is not an easy task. It may be worth only a couple of hundred USD, or a couple of thousand... Provide as much information as you can so we can help you.

Would it be possible for you to post photographs of your Luger?

Does the safety lever move? or is it rusted in place? If it moves, but does not make the gun safe, it may be improperly assembled, or something is broken.

Please describe the marks on your Luger. From your serial number (16***) I would guess that it is a 1920's commercial Luger and not military in origin. Is the Toggle marked DWM? Does it have a year date over the chamber? Can you describe any proof marks or inspection stamps on the gun?

I think we would all be curious as to what a Luger sells for in Argentina. How much did you have to pay for yours? Every country's market is different based on supply and demand.

RAC, that is about as honest a pictoral presentation as I have seen, but I would suggest the ellimination of the Nazi association for it is not the correct era.

RAC 05-19-2004 08:14 PM

i'm sorry about the background of the photos.. i dont have a digital camera, so a friend did the photo session ... and I know, it's not the correct era

Hi RAC,

From the 24th. edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values (the 25th. edition is now out...so the prices below might be a bit low...) :

M1900 Commerical DWM Luger in 7,65 cal. :

$ 3000 USD at 98% orginal finish
$ 2500 USD at 95%
$ 2000 USD at 90%
$ 1650 USD at 80%
$ 1325 USD at 70%
$ 950 USD at 60%

It is a bit difficult to tell from your photos, but my guess would be yours is in the 80-85% finish range... :confused:

In Jan C. Still's book on Imperial Lugers on page 11, a table reports serial numbers in the 50-19294 range; with an estimated 5,750 made. Your number 16220 seems to be in the later period of the production.

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Hi,

The little return leaf spring that pushes the grip safety backwards appears to be broken.

Tom Heller usually has some in stock and they're very simple to replace.

Broke one on my 1906-pattern gun a while ago and it took about 10 minutes to remove and install the little spring.

Sometimes the return spring is not engaging the safety right, I would check to see if the spring is broken or has slipped past the grip safety nub (from putting the safety in without compressing the spring), you can see this if you take the grips off.

I have plenty of early DWM type grip safety springs available @$25 each. Also have new original ones for the Mauser Parabellum (not interchangable with the DWM) at the same price. TH

RAC 05-20-2004 02:43 PM

I didn't note it before but the return spring is missing, is not there. I guess it was removed by the original owner and i can't ask him because he died. The gun was sold by the son of this oldman to my father, the price? 120 pesos (40 USD). Im not a collector, so i don't know anything about restoration, but i'll try to learn.. thnx everybody

$40!!! At twenty times that amount it would still be a good buy! Congratulations.

ken d 05-20-2004 09:12 PM

The magazine appears to be a navy model. Might add a few dollars to the price.
