Any thoughts, info on this Mauser? Looks to be re-blued, Dutch poof marks? There are no markings on the holster. I'm thinking shooter grade?
I keep getting an invalid file notice. What the heck am I messing up?

jokes apart try to post some close up pictures of your gun, and describe it if possible in detail, best taken outside on an overcast day, without artificial flash nor directed light.
After that probably we can give you an idea of its originality and value.

OK, lets give this another try.
Any thoughts, info on this Mauser Luger? Looks like it may have been re-blued, the only non matching part I have found is the trigger side plate. Based on the proof markings is this a Dutch contract, bird with 655> The magazine also has proof marks on it.
It came with the black holster, you can make out Cotbus 1936 and see the proof markings. Thoughts on value?
The unknown holster came with a P38, just wondering about it?

Should be great for concealed carry, what with the corners all rounded off like that before the re-blue. :eek:

But potentially a good shooter if the side plate allows!

It appears very black, too. Curious if that's the camera or it's actual color.

The holster looks like an honest 1938 P.08 holster.
It's been passed around and probably has had the wrong magazine stuffed into it.
But, the stitching is still good.
WaA94 w/ swastika (Otto Sindel, Militareffekten und Lederwarnfabrik, Berlin)
It should also have "crb" stamped on it.
This holster papers to have the name "Curt Vogel" for the name.

There should also be a 3 letter Ordinance code on it somewhere, possibly a "P.08" stamp in ink.

Don't know about Dutch markings, but definitely re-blued. A P-08 holster and probably a later P-38 soft sided holster.
Regarding value, I'm guessing $900 for the gun IF it works (shoots) well. Seems to be a good looking shooter.
P-08 holster is probably around $200, soft P-38 holster ?

That should make you a nice looking range Luger. It has had the "anti-snag treatment" done to it when reblued. It likely required the heavy buffing to clean up surface defects(rust/corrosion). Let us know how it performs for you. In my part of the Country, that Luger would likely bring $8-900. I have no idea about the value of the leather.

Forgive my ignorance but....what does this mean (if the side plate allows )?

I did get 3 rounds off last night before it got dark. No Issues that I could tell.
The color is a fairly dark. Photos were taken with an iPhone. I can get daylight photos this weekend if requested.
I did not see any other markings on the holster, I'll have a closer look tonight. I got the Luger and holster for $550. Seems like that is a good price?

I think what was meant by "if the side plate allows", is that side plates are not 100% interchangeable. If yours shoots, it is ok.:cheers:

Not to speak for David, but when you start mismatching the side plate, it can effect things like trigger function, trigger pull weight, reset, and overall reliability. I can't tell you the specific parts that get out of sync, but know that it's the luck of the draw if other side plates will work without gunsmithing.

Safe to say that if the numbers on the side plate don't match the rest of the numbers on the pistol then it was the not made for that pistol?

Don and David have answered your first question. However, you have established three data points for success in last night's test firing. Odds are that it will continue to work fine. Its dark finish is, of course typical of hot/salt bluing, but I think it appears darker than original because of the buffing applied to it beforehand, and perhaps slightly different chemistry of more a modern process. Totally acceptable at the sweet price you paid...!

You paid the going price of a Luger paperweight, but you have a nice shooter - good job!

You could probably double your money if you resold it.

The edges look a little too "soft", kind looks like a reblue, no collector value.
I'm not sure about the holster.

While not collector grade it should make for a fun shooter. And a decent piece to pass on to the children. Amazing bit of work, considering they made these without the benefit of CAD or CNC machine tools.

The very black color is not the camera/lighting.
I'll be running a few rounds through it this weekend. Try and give a range report afterwards.

Decent blue jobs cost around $300 or more. Sometimes they really buff them to get
the bad parts smooth. Its quicker than using the stones and keeping the edges all nice.
One thing I have noticed lots of people here are wanting sideplates with specific numbers, so there are lots of mismatched Lugers around. Finding any luger for that price, that shoots is a deal. You can always get your money out of that one. Nice shooters bring good money all the time.
