Crown over "B"

Any information on marking of a Crown over a "B" on Luger?

Kri 1942 10-28-2017 03:56 AM

Luger DWM model 1908 commercial RG (Gendarmerie d' Alsace-Lorraine, around 1914)

hayhugh 10-28-2017 06:50 AM

Where can I find out more about this origination and their unique symbol?

Norme 10-28-2017 08:46 AM

Hi Hugh,
That C/B is not a unique symbol, it's one of the three B,U,G proofs.
You really should post a photo of the left side of that rare and desirable gun's receiver.

Hi Hugh,
I'm sorry, I meant the left side of the frame, there should be an engraved R.G. inscription.
Regards, Norm

That left side looks like a recent auction offering, if so- it was missing the RG inscription; likely removed when the sear safety was added.

That luger has been "around" the block, as it was still in service in 1932 when the sear safety was added, and likely long after!

Nice pistol.

NO "RG" photo to follow.........

It looks like you have a rare and desirable intact magazine safety, as well as the Schiwy sear safety. It is a police Luger (or was) and the safeties don't really impact its value but do add to its collectibility. :)

Well, maybe add a little bit to its value... :p

We would all like to see more pics. ;)

As someone once said:
Of all sad words of tongue or pen, saddest are these, "It might have been".

To the original question, the two crown/Bs bear no resemblance to any known Luger marking.

Please go to following site and check out photos 10 and 12: http://www.tircollection.com/t29841-...ht=gendarmerie

Please note even the cleaning rod is marked with the Crown over B.

I admit I don't read or speak French but this is the best I have found on this gun so far... More photos to follow when I receive the gun... All opinions and information greatly appreciated, Hugh

Google speaks French... :)

Commercial Luger used by the German Imperial Army and the Reich Gendarmerie of Alsace-Lorraine.

Here is what Norm was hoping to see.

Ya put's your money down and ya take's your chance! But what is the consensus now?

As someone once said: Maybe..

We know what it was, but what is it now? That is the question. I know, I'll ask my new neighbor, a Buddhist, it'll give him something to meditate over, instead of complaining when I shoot squirrels.

When I get my grubby little hands on the gun in a few days, I will give it a full photo shoot and post photos here for all to peruse and comment on either pro or con. Thanks to all for comments up to now. Hugh
