Opinions on this 1939/42

I was looking for my "one and only" Luger and I found this one.

Seemed a bit under priced for a Simpson/ltd in this condition.

I thought I would take a chance on it since Simpson/ltd has a solid reputation.

I asked the salesman about import makings, refinish, etc. - no issues.

Opinions/comments?

Looks good; you're correct a little under the norm in price for Simpson.

When you get it post your own pictures using the server here, please.

A possible reason for the more reasonable price is that the piece was in Simpson's inventory. What really jacks the price up is if it is a consignment piece...then you encounter the consignor's inflated opinion of the value of the piece plus Simpson's fees.

I don't claim to be an expert but everything seems to look good on that pistol, congratulations, and welcome to our Luger forum.

Thanks!

I appreciate the input from everyone.

The pictures seemed over exposed (very light), and the resolution not up to their normal standard. The finish almost looks gray to me.

I'm counting on Simpson's reputation for this purchase. They do know their Lugers.

$1895 for a 1939 / 42 is under the norm???

I'll have to revise the prices on the Lugers I'm selling...

Seems about 200.00 high to me as well. But, what do I know...Just picked up a S/42 1937 in about 80% for 1,000.00 even.

I have 2 handguns on consignment with Simpsons. They charge a 20% fee when they sell them. I went his route because Simpsons has a huge following of buyers and I couldn't find a buyer locally.

Hi Thomas,
If there's anyone on this forum qualified to say what is the norm, it's me, Norm. That said, I think you did just fine. Your 1939 42, while more common than a 1939 S/42, looks to be in excellent condition and you have Simpson's assurances that all internal numbers match.
Regards, Norm
P.S. Welcome to the forum!
