Mag proofs

Hello Guys,

When specifically did acceptance proofs stop being used on mag bases in Nazi Era?

Thanks,
Mitch

There were some in the "a" suffix block in 1940 with 122 magazines. Not sure about the no suffix 122's in 1940. The ones I have seen had E/37 on the bottom.

Mitch,

Not really sure where you're going with the question but I'll try to answer. I'm not sure that I have ever seen a Mauser manufacturer code on the base of any magazine, except for armorer replacement magazines that they supplied, i.e. s/42 or 42.

One typically sees the Heereswaffenamt inspector cartouche on the base which in late production was Eagle 655. Mauser had a later inspector, Eagle 137, but by that time they had stopped making their own magazines.

As you probably know, in 1939, the Heereswaffenamt ordered Mauser to cease their production of the rolled body magazine and start buying the Haenel magazine. Mauser slow rolled the transition and supplied their magazines well into 1940 when they finally started using the Haenel magazine exclusively.

Thus the latest observed Eagle 655 on the base of the magazine, a Mauser made, and E655 inspected was in the d-block of 1940 production.

The Haenel magazines were inspected in the Suhl region by inspector Eagle 37. Some early magazines have an Eagle 37 on the base but most have just two Eagle 37s on the body and one on the follower.

Hopw this helps.

Glad I asked, I thought b block of 1940.

Thanks a bunch,
Mitch
