Yes! The pictures tell all! But there is more about it that I can tell you?
The Navy Luger pictured was made from grade II or rejected parts from John V. Martz's shop, by none other than J.V.M himself...:eek:..... kind of a story inside a story, but here's what happened...
I've always been hand to mouth, out of pocket, or just plain broke... I spend impulsively and buy what I like, still, I did my best to put two kids thru college with one acquiring a masters degree, and the other working on a doctorate in clinical phycology .. At the time I first became aware of John V. was because of an elaborate custom pistol box I made for Tom Heller, Lugerdoc to most new members here, and John thought it would be perfect for his creations, and thru Tom contact was made, probably 40 years ago, but we were off and running... It wasn't too long after that John talked me into Luger magazine bottoms and for my initial order I made approx. 100 of them.... and, I made them wrong!!!! Grain ran the wrong way... perfect, but wrong... No problem, we'll just make 100 more! And so it went, from boxes / cases to mag bottoms, and eventually to grips and / or anything he though I could do! Didn't matter if I thought I could do it or not? Anyway, to make a long story short, as I went thru life, and he went thru life, I would become his fireman so to speak, I'd NEVER turn him down, and when some craftsman did, I was always there...
So, one day this unfinished Navy shooter shows up, no charge, just a present from John, as he probably correctly figured, it was the only way I was going to get a navy...just so happens it was about the same time Thor was gearing up and honing the skill sets he now has for the wonderful restorations he now creates...
So I sent it to Thor, and the beautiful result is what you now see pictured... Although it doesn't happen often, it shows you how sharing and caring and unselfish behavior, is sometimes rewarded!!! So, if you wonder why I always go to Luger doc, Thor, and a few other members here, it because there is a lot of HISTORY here as well!
BTW, as an end note, I don't have the Navy anymore, as life sometimes bites your butt and you're happy just to go forward! I do remember it shot about a foot high! :D best to all, til....lat'r.....GT...;)

I too have a "high-shooting" Navy which we have discussed in the past. I need to get it off to you one of these days.

I owned 2 copies of the book In French "La Connaissance Du Luger" One I sent to John Martz before he died~ There is a section 10 pages of pictures of John, his friends and lugers. Included is a picture of a Handsome dude "Tom Heller"with a beard!. Ill will post copies of you and his craftmenship and try to find you a copy!

GT, I have a similar Martz Navy with his MSTR that I left in the white. So far no rust or tanish after 40 years. There must be another Tom Heller (I know of 2 others) with a beard, but I've never had one. TH
