1975 Masuer Luger Bull Barrel- what do you think?

Came across this unusual P08 for sale, Description reads as follows:

Luger 1975 Bullbarrel
Collector's Firearm

Luger 1975 Bullbarrel
- Luger pistol. Maker: Mauser Caliber: 9mm Luger
- Bull Barrel. Sportversion, made in 1974. This pistol is really unique and is in mint condition.
- Only 200 pistols made. Target rear sight. This is the only really new Luger model of P08 made by Mauser.
- Price $3600

What do you all think?

No history in that pistol! No "what if it could talk".

- that's what caught my eye in the first place- the target sights.... and then the heavy barrel.

Fact is... now that I have thought about it a bit more, Lugers were built as combat pistols, not as match target pistols. AND, as Kurusu helped me to see..... I have to admit - I don't like the heavy barrel either!

I'm not going further with this unless the price comes WAY down. Which it probably won't.

I like a bull barrel. I asked GT to make me a four inch and the six inch I have for sale right now...

I really enjoy browsing various websites to see what's out there,
but importing from the US into the Netherlands is very complicated :(
So I stick to local ads or NL sites / forum members.

Not to my taste or budget. I think there is a very limited market for such a custom Luger.

Price is very steep too.
Wonder how price is determined in these special cases....

Its a nice and rare gun. But I think 2500 would be top dollar for this one.

I still have the prototypes of the target rear sight here.
Original plan was a sight added to a reworked rear toggle part.

That didn't work, so they constructed a special rear toggle part for the target pistol. It was constructed in 1974 when a radical change in German gun laws was expected. By turning the Parabellum into a target pistol Mauser hoped to retain a market. The gun law changes were far less constrictive than thougt so the target version disappeared again.

Turns out to be a commissioned piece, advertised on a gunshop website.
Hardly ever fired..... still... would be interesting to see it...

This is a very nice Sport Mauser Parabellum made in a very limited number by Mauser in 1975-76 time frame although some of them are dated after 1976. The produciton ended in September 1976.
A complete history of this model is available in our (Gerben and I) book: "The Parabellum is back! 1945 - 2000".
In the Mauser Archive some nice information are available about this interesting variation.

If you want a military issued match grade target pistol consider:

- Swiss Lugers (M1929) .30 Luger
- Swiss SIG P210 9mm

Both were manufactured to the precision needed in a reliable accurate target pistol. Both are military pistols. The Swiss are (delightfully) obsessed with precision and enjoy target shooting.

Actually I have looked at the Swiss .30 Luger (7.65 cal or 7.62 cal)- the only question I have is the availability and cost of ammo. I understand about 2x the cost of 9mm......

I'm still experimenting.........

The P210 I own has to be the most precision made firearm in my entire collection. It is smooth as glass when cycling.

They are more reasonably priced in Europe than they are here after importation. Pick one up while you are there.

The P49 (Sig 210) is a good pistol. But I still like the Luger better.

By the way our(Portuguese) M2 is just like the Swiss, minus the Swiss crest.:D
