Matching Magazine~ Enhanced Value??

In evaluating the value of a luger, how much does a matching magazine or better two add to the overall value? Has anyone do a survey as to the percent exist. I've got twenty lugers without~ Are there fakes out there? I bet GT could make a good copy!! A matching mag is like a hundred year marriage I would assume! I'm on my third!! I can't afford a fourth!!! Eric

I have had this on before but.

A WAG made many years ago by a few of us collectors.
Lugers
35% lost by war.
20% destroyed after war
10% to other countries Russia etc)
Of the 35% remaining 10% of these are 95% with matching numbers excluding mags.
Of these a small percentage with matching mag and smaller yet with 2 matching mags
There are more matching mags now than ever before. I wonder why? Dah

I estimate an authentic matching mag would add about 30% to the value of an all numbers matching P08 in good overall condition: at least 80% original finish, minimal pitting, holster wear only, good bore, grips undamaged.
2 matching mags? perhaps double the price?

Depends of course on what the collector/buyer is willing to pay.

Perhaps go through buyers' sites and compare two firearms as close in condition as possible with the same manufacturer and close to the same date- one with matching mag, one without. Would be an interesting excercise. Might do that myself come to think of it.

A quote from the Luger Catalogue:
In the rare case when one finds a Luger with a
proper matching serial numbered magazine, the value
goes up from 25 percent to 50 percent. In the extremely
rare case when one finds a Luger with BOTH proper
matching serial numbered magazines, the value goes up
as much as double.

Why are there now more matching magazines than ever before?
1. Renumbering/fakes.
2. The internet. Collectors can now see large numbers of Lugers from all over the world with the click of the mouse. Some of these will have correct matching magazines. This was not possible 30 years ago.

When Lugers were redone during the Weimar era, were they replaced by other numbered parts or left blank? Was it required that they be refurbished with all matching numbers or instead not so? I really don't know! Eric

Usually they were numbered to match.
