Correct Grips for German Imperial Army Accepted Walther Model 4

I Recently acquired a Walther Model 4 with a Imperial German Army acceptance stamp and has a serial number of 98,898. In order to fill their Army contract for Model 4's, Walther used several other firearm manufactures. Would be interested in determining if these Model 4's intended for Army use (made by either Walther or their "sub-contractors) came with horn or hard rubber grips or would either be correct?

Would also appreciate a source for your response.

Thank you for your time.

Hogg's Pistols Of The World doesn't mention the material, but the B&W pic looks to be hard rubber.

Hogg has a larger picture of the same handgun in his book German Handguns, shown below...

Richard:

Appreciate your response.

Given how brittle horn grips are and how practical the Germans were/are, hard rubber would make sense........

I believe that the grips on my military Mod. 4 are horn.
