Test Eagle

Here are some better pictures of Test Eagle #6761. It now has proper (though mismatched) breechblock and takedown lever. I cleaned up the left frame ear a bit, the safety area is now a bit brighter and obviously unblued and it now appears to me that what finish is left on this gun is original.

The markings in the top view do not show up well in the photograph, I decided against whitening them as being out of character with the condition of the gun.

I don't know if it is just that I am getting used to this gun, or pride of ownership, or simple rationalization, but it does seem to be in better shape than it first appeared to be, walking around the gun show.

This is definitely a piece of history, Dwight. I think you did a great job compared to how it first looked. The right side of the frame is a bit unclear to me. Is "61" stamped on the end of the take down lever? I won't get into the restortion controversy, but I feel you should keep it as is: a great find.

Dwight, Nice start. Now you need Thor's services. If you plan to leave finish as is, I could have sold you a more pitted BB to match the rest of your finish. TH

Dwight, I admire your pistol quite a bit. This piece, in its present condition, speaks to us quite a bit.

Dwight,

I saw it at the show and think that since it is mostly original and you will not be shooting it a great deal my vote would be to not restore.

If it had been reblued in the past, that would be different.

Maybe I will see you again this Sunday. I am still thinking about the Astra 300 at a more reasonable price. It would give me a small, medium and large.

Steve
