Re-barreled A E value?

I have been offered a 1906 AE that has an after market barrel. The pistol is in 70% condition otherwise with a dime sized spot of light pitting on the side panel above the left grip. All matching but the barrel. The owner wants $800.
Any opinions? Is it worth it as is?

Thanks, Ron

I would guess its worth little if anything more then a shooter, you did not say but is it 9mm ?, 4"/6" barrel?. AE makes it interestiing but I do not feel it bring much to the worth of what is a parts gun. Give you wife our best wishes, we pray all is going well for her.

Hi Howard,

Thanks for the sentiments. We did get some better news. She went in for radical surgery yesterday. Removal of juggular, back half of pallet, neck muscles and nerves that would control shoulder and tongue. A 5-6hr proceedure.
The surgeon checked her throat prior to cutting , and after getting opinions from two other specialists, determined that there is a very good chance of curing with a new radiation and Kemo therapy. He chose not to cut at all.
We now go to Portland, to see the Oncologists who specialize in throat cancer. For confirmation of his decision. So it appears that things are turning out for the better.

And thanks for your opinion on the AE. I would primarily like to get it for parts. I wanted to first get a couple of educated opinions. I was'nt sure what a 1906 parts gun would be worth.

Ron, Happy to hear you are getting some good nesw! Your Wife's name escapes me and I apologize but let her know we are praying and thinking about her...

There are several of these rebarreled AE, or Finnish pistols on Gunbroker if I remember right. 5 Inch barrels.

Wow! No cutting whatsoever. Wonderful news.

Thanks Guys, I'm feeling a lot more confident about it. Also talked to an old aquaintance whom I heard had been diagnosed as terminal 2 years ago. I assumed he was gone. Ran into him at the hospital while waiting for my wife to come out of surgery. He is in complete remission, and doing fine after having the same radiation and kemo procedure my wife will have. A good omen!

Well, back to the topic. Are the Finnish pistols AE's? I thought they were all 1908's that had been rebarreled by the Finns.

Ron, Most of the WW2 Finnish 9x125mm rebarrels were M20 Commericals that were purchased in 1923 with 7.65x98mm barrels. Although I suspect that other models in the military system (seems strange that they would own a 1906AE) may have had the Lahti length barrels added if needed. TH
