Very nice looking. I'd like to see some close-ups of the left side of the G date, specifically the side plate. Also is the extractor on the top of the toggle straw colored? Do you know if the gun has been refinished?

The edges look a little"soft". Kinda looks like a reblue. But it may be the lighting. I could be wrong. Better photos would help.

On the G date is the extractor straw colored or blued?

I also am having problems judging the finish of your "G" date S/42 Luger. The finish and straw look like new, but the edges of the gun look slightly rounded. This happens when a rust blued gun is re-blued and the refinisher cards the finish without paying attention to the edges. The strawed extractor is not correct (as issued by the factory), and confirms that it was redone.

Your byf 41 looks to be in original finish, so you can judge the edges of your "G" date in hand.

You will get better pictures taking them with a digital camera outdoors in natural shaded light using a tripod. This helps you get sharp focus and ensures that the color balance is good without the reflections you see from flash. You can see the uniform appearance and sharpness in Norme's reference photo.

It is very possible that the GI had "freshened" up his Luger at some point, or that he had acquired it from someone else that made it look nice before selling it to him. I've learned to dismiss many of the anecdotal Luger capture stories. We see a number of guns appear here as "captured" by "grandfather" from an "officer" in WW-II, only to have to inform the person that it was a 1920's era gun sold commercially in the USA.

In any case, you have two nice Lugers made by Mauser in 1935 and 1941. They represent close to the bookends of Mauser Luger production.

It's possible to have the left grip chip repaired on the byf 41 Luger. Are those the dog's tooth marks on the grip? "Bad dog!!!"

that is not the OP luger- the pistol in the OP has definitely a strawed extractor, and is refinished.

This one is not.:confused:
