Ammo Matters

I bought a .30 and used the Fiocchi ammo. It jammed
didn't feed right and all kinds of weird problems. I
read all the fixes and was going to work on it. Today
I ran a box of the PPU's through it, and it shot perfect.
Not one problem. So before you repair one try a different
ammo.

I have the same issue with the Fiocchi ammo, and the same excellent results with the PPU ammo in my .30. I've put about 100 round of PPU through it now and not one issue. Couldn't get 2 shots in a row using Fiocchi, jammed or didn't feed for every round.

And i'll bet PPU is cheaper right?

They make some of the best rifle brass, right up there with Norma and Lapua.

Fiocchi is hit and miss with handgun ammo.
Their 30 Luger is underloaded, so much so that it don't work
Their 455 Webley is hotter than lava and fired in original black powder weapons you risk their destruction.

Fiocchi is also too short(in OAL) to function correctly in most lugers; BUT, will work in some.

I bought 3 boxes of PPU and just ordered 4 more. It shot perfect in mine.
All the sillyness went away. Was $18 a box. Might try reloading when I get
some empty cases together.

Every Luger is a story unto itself. I have a couple of Lugers in 30 Luger caliber that eat Fiocchi ammo like a goose does corn. That is only the Fiocchi with the FMJ bullet, as neither like the JSP bullets and are a jam-a-matic with them. Some Lugers are really ammo sensitive.

I might be wrong, and probably am, but I figure those guns that
are ammo picky are right on the verge of being out of spec.
The fun part of all of this, to me is the hunt to get one back to perfect.

I think if you have one that runs right with a certain brand of ammo, you should borrow a chronograph from someone and see what they are doing. Then find the brand that jams and functions terrible and do it too. I think you would find what power range makes your gun work. Might solve future problems.

You and others might appreciate the info in this thread on the other luger board:

It is not about ammo, it is about G-powder in it.
