I have a luger 42 code 1939 that has some barrel marking I am not familier with. Can anyone help Id them.

Could use a better, larger picture- but I think they are post war German or Austrian nitro proofing of the barrel.

Yup. Eagle/N proof marking. Has been replaced with CIP/N a few years ago.

Why is it here?

There are no import markings on the pistol anywhere. Do you think it was a vet bring back in the 1950's?

ask80 05-24-2017 04:07 PM

Does it effect value?

My 1939 Mauser 42 does not have that on it's barrel. My serial #2101 t.

Was probably sent for repair, imported, or somehow pass through German trade and required re-proof.

No, but it could have been a PX purchase I suppose.

These markings were added well after the pistol was produced, yours should not have them- unless it has a similar post war history.

Yes, negatively; it is not longer in original condition as produced.
