Unit mark on frontstrap 10.H.5.12.

Hi,

Just bought DWM military Luger with added hold open and no stock lug. matching numbers, except barrel.
On Frontsrap thereīs unit marking 10.H.5.12.
Can anyone tell what unit that marking stands for?

10. Hussar Regiment. 5th Eskadron, Waffe 12. I assume it's a 1910 DWM. What's the serial number?

JRi 04-25-2017 07:17 AM

8891 P (at least I think itīs P)
Caliber is 7,65 and barrel has no serial nor proof markings at all...

Welcome-
your post raises many questions, could you please post some pictures of the markings and the entire pistol from various angles and close ups.

If you have not read the stickys above in the "New collectors forum", read them and it will help you to know the questions to answer and pictures to take.

Hi Jani,
Thanks for the additional photos. I suspect the serial number of your gun is 8891a and that it is a DWM 1st Issue made in 1909. I believe it's receiver was refinished when the replacement barrel was installed and that it's left side inspection and proof marks were removed at that time. On this model these marks are often very lightly struck. The photos below are from one of mine, very close in serial number to yours.
Regards, Norm

hmm.. I canīt see this alphabet as "a" or it must be very badly struck. And this curve at the top, does "a" have such ?

This thread has links to actual photos of the various letters used in Luger suffixes...See if you can find a match... :D

Hi Jani,
Your gun is a 1910, at least the frame and the toggle train are. I won't even try to guess the origin of the receiver. With regard to the unit mark, the 1910 date makes more sense. The bulk of the 1st Issues, most of which were made in 1909 were allocated to machine gun units, cavalry units got most of the 1910 production.

Thanks!
Barrel/receiver is without any markings, so it can be from different gun. Breechlock group has matching numbers with frame, so it is same pair with frame.
whatīs the value of this kind mismatch 1910 luger?

DonVoigt 05-26-2017 08:42 AM

Thanks for the pictures, sorry I didn't make it back to this post till now.
You "know" what is is now, mismatched luger with an interesting grip marking.

Value- that of a shooter 7.65mm- what ever that is. JMHO.
