An Imperial Navy belt buckle is something else that's hard to find. Those issued to enlisted personnel prior to 1914 were identical to Prussian Army buckles except for their distinctive Imperial Navy crowns. The elaborate buckles for officers, presumably privately purchased, came in two sizes, the smaller, for day-to-day use, was worn with a leather or fabric belt (see photo). The larger, for ceremonial occasions, was attached to an elaborate brocade belt. The one below is identical to that worn by the Colonial officer pictured on the front cover of "German Field Uniforms" by Johan Somers, Vol III.

Thanks for posting. I've always found military uniforms and their components very interesting.

Norm,

Do you mind if I post these on my German buckle forum?
