Tula 9mm ammo
 

I bought a box of 50 rounds of this stuff. It is steel case as a magnet sticks to the case and bullet. Is it OK to shoot in an old Luger? If not, I have a S&W 59 that will eat it.

Most folks say the steel case is too hard for the extractor, although WWII ammo was steel.

I don't use it in my shooter.

Major Tom, a vast majority here would not shoot steel casing ammo in our precious Lugers. Even modern auto loaders mostly advise against using it. Why try it in your Luger unless you enjoy experimenting with higher risk casings? The only good attribute of steel casing is that it is cheap. Just say no to cheap ammo!

Recently bought a nice 1939 dated Mauser 42 code from a young fellow who brought it into the shop because "it jams". After I disassembled it, and saw everything in good order. I paid him what I thought was a fair price. He then "threw in" the ammo he had in the deal. Russian Tula steel case. I promptly gave the ammo away to a friend who shoots Glocks. Just dont do bi metal bullets in a fine old collectable gun!

I shoot lots of Tula steel case....in modern firearms. It's good ammo...in modern firearms. Brass only for old firearms though.

Problem is not the cases but most often the bullets are iron clad lead with a copper wash.
Now that will "iron" out a barrel fast. No rifling at all in the AR's after 5k shots with iron bullets, and that from a hard chrome plated barrel.

Most of us here run WWB or S&B through our Lugers, I prefer the S&B myself. Cabelas Herters is good to go as well.

We're talking about lugers, not ARs; the steel case IS the problem in a luger; as has been pointed out before- primarily due to the obduration ring the the chambers(before 1940).

Practically, there is no good reason to use steel case ammo in a luger; if one can afford a luger, one should be able to afford brass case ammo!:soapbox:

I, too, have a 1939 Mauser 42, serial #2101t. It's all matching even the grips. The aluminum base mag has a serial #6469 over n and a plus (+).
