DWM Luger with no rear sight ?
 

Hello all,

quick question.... a friend has a DWM 1918 luger that appears to have no rear sight. I'm not sure why other then it may have been ground off? If it was ground off, it was polished and reblued because its pretty smooth.
My question is this... Is there a reason why it would have been manufactured like that? (I'm sure it wasn't) or why would anyone do that?

It may have started life as an Artillery.

Keith, if the top front of the receiver has the "Artillery notch" to allow for clearance for the rear sight leaf, it would also point to this as your answer.

Somebody has buffed the livin' bejeepers out of this gun.

Looks as i it was ground off leaving the toggle link not fitting the curve of the frame. Also the bluing looks different, probably cold spot blued.

IMHO, this is an Artillery Luger toggle as previously mentioned. If the weapon presently has a standard barrel now installed, all you have to do is get a standard toggle with a rear sight and replace what you have. Someone would certainly be interested in either trading with you or purchasing your Artillery toggle ...

Thanks very much for the info! I hadn't thought of the artillery angle but that's mostl likely what it is. It really doesn't appear to have been ground because it's to perfect.
I'll let my friend know.... and I'll mention if he would like to try and trade that for one with a rear sight.

Can you post a picture of the top of the pistol showing the chamber and part of the barrel. This would settle the question if it started life as an artillery model?\
