S/42 1937 P08 Luger
Hello, I have not posted to the forum in a long time just wanted to share some pictures of my Luger,
S/42 1937 Mauser all parts including grips and magazine have matching numbers, unfortunately the side plate has different number but this pistol will be a shooter for me so im not too disapointed. This pistol also came with a holster marked Oyffel & Borns, Hannover 1936 serial number on holster is also not matched to the pistol Pistol was a vet bringback, Has been in storage for a long time inside the holster in a garage, had a fair amount of surface rust under the grips which cleaned off easily, bore was dirty and dusty but cleaned up nicely. I'am very pleased to own a Luger pistol! http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...pss70xrlrl.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...pstyjlttse.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...psy7jsb0tu.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...ps93qsm6gw.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...pshdjn6qon.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7pvkffea.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9l14eejd.jpg http://i1129.photobucket.com/albums/...psbaxxfdoe.jpg |

Have you searched for sideplate #95?

I was curious as to how the pistol could retain the serialized magazine but lose the serialized side plate, perhaps a lot of pistols being cleaned at the same time under duress? which I guess would explain the mismatched holster too. Wish I had the takedown tool and spare magazine with the pistol. |

It would be nice if I could find a 95 side plate but im not too worried as the holster wear on this pistol is uniform so I think it has been mis-matched for a long time. I find it interesting that the magazine is serialized to the pistol and managed to stay with the pistol but the pistol ended up with the wrong side plate and holster' story of this pistol was brought back from Europe after the war by a friends grandfather, passed down to his father and then to him. Last time he remembers the pistol being fired was on a camping trip back in late 1960's. Pistol has been kept in the holster in a garage for last 30+ years. My friend has no real interest in guns and prefares fishing so I asked if he wanted to sell it. He had no sentimental attachment to his grandfathers Luger and wanted it to go to somebody who would appreciate it so I ended up with it. |
Congrats on you "new" Luger. CAUTION, one Luger can easily lead to 2....3....4, etc. I would continue to look for a correctly numbered sideplate, but enjoy the Luger. A very nice outfit.
