Can someone help?

Hi, I have had a look through the forum but hoping someone can help.
I have two Luger magazines and wondered if it is possible to date them from the numbers/markings on the bottom?
Both have Aluminium bottoms.
one has 7139 over m over + over waffenamt 63
other has 9570 over t over waffenamt 63
I can't find any other markings on the magazine apart from on the base. I can try to post some pictures if it would help.
Thanks in advance, David.

Detailed photos, particularly of any markings, are almost requisite. Post such photos and your questions will be answered by all the knowledgeable folks here.

Hi David,
Welcome to the forum! Your magazines are Army Type 2, and the SE/63 (Stick Eagle/63) inspection marks date them to 1938.

Can I ask for an idea of how much they are worth? Thanks again. David

Typically $100 to $125 when in top condition.

David,

Welcome to the Forum. And welcome to the lack of absolute certainty when it comes to collecting P.08s.

As previously mentioned, pictures are important. Good pictures are critical in order to make definitive statements.

So, let's jump in.

First, I am not totally sure that the m-suffix magazine is SE63. The photo lacks definition but it may be a SE83 made late in 1938. Only close examination or a really good photo can tell which it is. The SE83 inspector was around for about a year. Inspector 63 with various cartouches was around from 1935 to 1939.

The t-suffix magazine is definitely a S63, in fact, the large number variation. This magazine was shipped with a 1939 code 42 pistol in approximately May 1939.

Hope this helps.

John

David,

Yep!! Sure is.

While not particularly rare, Inspector 83 was not around for a long time so you do not see many of them. But.. to anyone who owns an SE83 inspected gun it is more period correct than a SE63.

They might be worth a lot more than $125 to the right buyer, say someone who owns the matching numbered gun. The only way to know for sure is to put them up for sale.

That statement itself should be a 'sticky'.
