Relieved versus Unrelieved frame?
Hi All,
Have been reading up on Swiss Lugers... I may have an opportunity to obtain a 7,65 mm 06/29... and have come across these two terms- Can someone tell me what "relieved frame" and Unrelieved frame" mean? Thanks, |
Hi Robert,
I believe that the terms only apply to the M1900 pistols. There was a change to the interior profile of the magazine well fairly early in the run of M1900 pistols. I don't know of any profile changes for the M1929 guns. Marc |
Ahh Thank you. How does one distinguish these two? Thanks!!

Thank you Mike! You saved me the trouble of resurrecting the image. Marc is correct that the unrelieved frame is only a feature of the very early production Swiss Lugers and are probably only found on pieces serial numbered under 700 (I don't recall seeing any beyond that range). Unrelieved frame examples are very rare as most were reworked to relieve the frame to accept the later raised button magazine.
