Suppressor Silencer Luger
 

Has anyone had any experience using a suppressor/silencer on a Luger?

The Gestapo?

Kidding aside, I have not held or shot one, but I believe some have shown up on the web from time to time - perhaps modified by SOE in England?

Since the Luger/Parabellum uses a floating barrel like 1911's and others it need a Nielsen device to secure reliable reloading.

Actually the Luger does not use a floating barrel like the 1911 Colt. The barrel is fixed into the upper receiver, and the entire upper receiver retracts when the gun is fired.

I am fairly certain that the silencer on the assassination luger mentioned by alanint did not use a device such as you have described.

MANY years ago (Probably 15 years+), there was a Luger that was displayed on this site in a monthly feature that was titled "Luger Centerfolds" by the owner that was specially modified for silencer use.

The entire front sight base was removable by unscrewing it and the threaded barrel would allow a silencer to be attached. The pistol had also been manufactured in a "sanitized" condition. It had absolutely no markings or stamps to identify its origin. The pistol was in like new condition and had not been refinished.

I lost many, many gigabytes of my Luger photo library years ago in a personal computer crash --- perhaps one of the other long time members has a photo of this pistol in his own archive and could post the photos in this thread??? Ron Wood? Are you listening? :rolleyes:

Here are pictures of a 1920 Commercial Luger in 7.65mm with a barrel threaded end attachment. The pistol has Germany origin stamped marks.

Very similar to the gun I was describing Dick, but on the gun we had displayed the entire front sight ring/base screwed off and the front sight was spring loaded as the latch for removal... but thanks for sharing your photo... I would love to see the suppressor that accompanied the gun in your photos, and know its vintage...

It would be interesting to see the type of suppressor that would be used with the 7.65mm Luger round. That has not been one of my pursuits.

Gosh, I just sold off all my suppressor books. In one about WW2 suppressed firearms was the Luger P08. It had a very ported barrel to drop the muzzle velocity. Of course the 32mm suppressor tube came back to the receiver. Between the barrel and the inside of the tube was
stuff with brass dish washing pot scrubbers. I forget what baffles it had in front of the barrel.
I used the same principal to suppress a Mk2 Sten gun. very quiet. Suppressors are legal in New Zealand, every one has them.

Nope, sorry, that is not it either. On the gun I am referencing, the entire front sight band and front sight base looks normal until you depress the front sight to unlatch the sight band and allow it to be screwed off of the barrel...

At the time it was displayed, it belonged to the Lugerforum.com site owner, John D., but I am pretty sure he traded/sold it many years back. Maybe if he is listening to this thread, he can shed some light on the photo, and the present owner of the gun for us...:confused:

John, Kenyon's Lugers at Random page 363 is probably the type you were remembering. Identified at the time as a factory made "1920 commercial silencer unit"
