May as well swing for the fences...

Couple of "interesting" Lugers on GB. Certainly not mine.

At WW2's end and post war-these pistols were copper-zinc "combat " chromed. Reason? Many because of the salt in the sea either pitted, rusted, or tarnished while in duty aboard ship.
Interesting, never heard of "combat chrome" before. Sounds more legit if you give it a name, I suppose.

Perhaps a "White Warrior" or "Silver Slayer" (as opposed to Black Widow...)?

What will they think of next...

The 1914 DWM Artillery is as fake as John Kerry's Silver Star Medal.

DonVoigt 01-08-2017 10:51 AM

The seller with the Artillery wears rose colored glasses(you can see the tint in the picture) and asks "high" prices for what is usually plain stuff or junk or messed with.

That said the- holster/stock/straps might be nice to have- but not for $14k+! ;)

Perhaps I should "combat chrome" a couple of my WWl and WWll 1911s and then 5X the price!!! Amazing to say the least.

"Combat chrome" is a marketing term. I think it's rather inventive of the seller, I'm sure Ford paid more than $6,000.00 to their advertising agency for dreaming up "Military grade aluminum".

That "MG" Aluminum really holds up well against rocks and tool boxes!

Chevy is making "hay" from aluminum, - now that is inventive!

Olle 01-08-2017 04:59 PM

Everybody knows that "military grade" aluminum is not as good as "aircraft grade" aluminum, and it's not even close to the "combat grade" aluminum I use in my shop. It's actually the same ol' 6160 aluminum as you find in most mechanical components, but hey: Marketing is marketing. Remember the Corinthian leather? :p

I bought a 1959 Jaguar XK150 that I was told still had Coventry Air" in the spare tire!

If it was the original spare, that could actually be believable. Heh. How much extra were they asking for that air?

I would bag it, tag it "original air" and put it up for safe storage so it doesn't get diluted when you fill the tire.
