Return of the Swiss
Got my Swiss receiver and barrel back from Ted ("Thor") yesterday...awesome work. He blued the barrel and receiver, perfectly matching the frame. This was the last stage in my Swiss rebuild/shooter project. Here's the end result. I didn't want to have a "new gun" look, but instead a pistol that looks well cared-for and well-used. I think this fills the bill. 7.65mm barrel bore is mint, a requirement I had for my shooter. I've posted photos of the gun in various stages of completion here in the restoration sub-forum if you're interested. Ted did some incredible work that makes my shooter look as good as it groups. I'm a happy guy!

That Luger had best barrel/bore, I have ever seen. Need to see before and after pics of the Swiss Cross, Brian Powley did a great job making it look factory new.

The rebuild is to be proud of...Ted scores again (kudos to G.T. and Jim Solomon as well)! I would love to see the before and after chamber Swiss Cross restoration. I have heard that Brian does some remarkable work on restoring crests to include the more intricate American Eagle. It probably isn't appropriate to ask here but I am curious, what is the cost of such a crest redo?

I shot the Swiss today, and it was just like the test-fire phase...all the rounds dropped into the 10-ring. Almost boring. I'm already thinking of buying another lost soul Luger for Ted to work his magic on...probably a full restoration this time. Project guns are SO addictive! Bob |
Nice work; and a big "Amen" to the project addiction! ;)

Bob, Glad to see that my NOS M29 Swiss barrel was used for a great project. Cudos, TH

Just a note on the receiver...it's a DWM 1906, which obviously isn't correct for the later Swiss Bern 1906. My thoughts were to keep the crest because A, it looks so good, and B, I didn't want anyone to think I was possibly faking a correct Swiss Bern 1906. This one is what it is...a NICE Swiss shooter, but still a shooter. Before...just back from G.T. Barrel fitted, ready for test-firing. The toggle train, trigger plate and frame are original and numbered. Barrel and receiver were from "LugerDoc". http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmoz18u02.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...psqwdn2xry.jpg All done. Nice work by Thor and Brian Powley http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...pszekfe016.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...pswxrzhcn8.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps0eujvg1y.jpg |
Sharp! Looks great...thank you.

Oh, and the stocks were re-done by our own Jim Solomon. They're a perfect match to the gun as far as not looking too "new", but still gorgeous! Thanks, Jim!

Bob,
All in all, I would say that you...and others, did yourselves proud!! Who here would not be proud to have this beauty in their safe?? 100% reliability and accuracy is just frosting on the cake....Congrats!! |
One question? Were there any real differences between the Swiss and German lugers givin the same year?
