Chinese C96 9mm
I know its not a real Red 9, its a fake but its still a 9mm broomhandle. the bolt is not matching, im sure there are other parts that arnt matching. Dose anybody have a ruff idea what its worth?

Some collectors have actually taken an interest in the Chinese knock-offs, but I don't think there's enough demand to justify much more than what the shooter Mausers go for. I don't know if you need to be too worried about the mismatched bolt, mixed heritage seems to be the norm for any Broomhandle imported from China. My WAG would be $700-$800 in good condition, $500 for a rough one.

Not sure if i should get it or not. Guy wants $600 for it, its in rather great condition. Its chambered in 9mm. Repo case/stock sadly. The pistol is 8 to 9 out of 10.

Absolutely, $600 for a nice one is a no brainer. Plus a bonus stock. You can't beat that, and if you don't take it I would like to have the guy's phone number.

I assume it's a German C96 imported from China, but not a Chinese "knock-off" C96. Original Chinese knock-off in mostly matching condition can sell $600-$2000 (depends on detail). Those are considered being collector items. It's uncommon to see those being rebored to 9mm. Very rare to see those in NRA VG condition.
What really common are German C96 imported from China (partially because German production volume was much higher than Chinese, partially because German C96 lasted longer), especially three variations: standard C96, Bolo, and M1930. Many of those are rebored in the US in the past 30 years. Those are shooters (I mean, pure shooters). Value not high in theory, but I also saw they could be pumped to $2000 occasionally. But in most cases, under $1000. Some relatively neat ones can go $1200, also depends on their appearance, more or less attractive, etc. |
DocS, A few thing to watch for on Chinese import brooms: If a German made pistol and bored out to 9mm, sometimes have such an eroded chamber area, that they will not function reliably. If new Chinese production fromthe 1980s, the metal is soft and may have similar problems, but may not accept German replacement parts and the Chinese made parts are not available. TH

A broom handle mauser was a bucket list gun for me. During the hieght of the panic I advertised a wasr ak that i had all of $250 into for trade. What I ended up with was a german mauser imported from china bored to a 9mm. Nothing matches but I did take it out to the range once and it functioned fine. I dont know what the gun is worth but I know the day after I traded (and the guy told me he was selling the ak) the ak was advertised for $1200.
I didnt care, I still have my broomy. But for $600 I would buy another. Jim |
