Erfurt overstamp, proofs

I have here a 1914 Erfurt over stamped to 1920. It is not double date as the 14 is stamped on top with 20 so it looks like 1920 only. the proofs appear to be proper reading right to left starting with an eagle, then two Bs under crowns, then a crown over three vertical marks like an M and finally, far left, something like a banner over vertical marks extending from the center at angles outward. Under that is Zaut.

Can someone tell my the significance of the date over stamp, the proofs and especially the mark with a banner over Zaut?

The pistol is in nice condition with old reblue and no straw. It matches except the rear toggle which is unmarked and unnumbered. Magazine bottom is cast and renumbered to match with a + and no other marks. Overall it is a very dignified pistol.

Have I something of interest?

Hi Ed,
I'm not at my best after a couple of drinks and your description makes little sense to me. Could you post some photos?

Sorry Norm, the pistol is with a friend so pix later maybe. I am interested in the proof type stamp left of proofs. It spells out Zaut with the u maybe an o or c or another letter not filled out at top. Also curious about over stamp from 1914 to 1920 with 20 obliterating 14.

Probably "Zeugamt", a depo or similar level armorer station; often seen abbreviated "HZa xxx", where x is other letters or numbers.

No way to answer your question with any certainty without pictures!

Is it of interest- sure- all lugers are of interest! ;)

Thanks Don. That makes sense. I'll try for pictures soon.

It also has on the barrel a small eagle over 37 and on the bottom where the bore diameter usually is we can see S/42. Is this a Mauser barrel on an Erfurt?
