John D.'s 'Centerfolds' Holster

I was browsing the thread on a Luger and attendant shoulder holster -

http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=35970

Which showed a US style 'tanker' shoulder holster made for a Luger -

http://forum.lugerforum.com/attachme...6&d=1469673450

And it reminded me of a Luger and shoulder holster shown in John D.'s 'centerfolds' album, which comes up in the Random Album Pictures on occasion -

John D.'s pic was posted before I became a member here [2008] and I missed any discussion of it. :(

I'm assuming that it must have stirred some discussion here...Does anyone recall what the general opinion was, at that time???

Anyone recall the thread???

I have always assumed that these were post war for a GI, but some folks believe that they were made in the war.

I have one, it is the first one.
Here are some others I have pictures of.

They are all interesting, but I was referring to the 'centerfolds' holster specifically. What made that one so special that it was included in the 'centerfolds' album???

I have two of the Cathey Ent Inc 'shoulder' holsters; one old style for the 1911 and one newer (that you see being worn bastardized by various military members) for the M9. Both black. They were intended to be worn on the chest, not under the armpit. Why some people tried to make them into a 'shoulder' holster always mystified me. They came with an instruction sheet. :)

Over the years, I've seen at least a dozen variations of these non-military contract (private purchase) shoulder holsters. Only one was maker marked without any WaA. You'll also see some for the FNHP, with double row mag pouch and I suspect that local leather makers would make one for whatever pistol the customer had. TH

The "Centerfolds" album was an old Lugerforum feature. Sort of like a "Luger of the Month" deal, but back then membership was much lower (only a few thousand) and maintenance of the LOTM feature became a real chore finding folks who wanted to display their Luger in the feature AND who would take the time to submit a description to be displayed with the photos, so the feature was eventually dropped.

The Gun/Holster combination was indeed John D.'s at the time as best as I can recall, and as he is a world class Krieghoff Subject Matter Expert, the gun should be a KH. I don't recall anything specific about the origin of the holster...

I wasn't around either and the holster is of no interest BUT I would like to hear the description of the gun . Was it called " restored - refinished ? Or ? [/I][/B]
